FUNDAMENTAL SPIRITUALITY
I would like to talk about the concept of "Fundamental Spirituality", this is NOT a religion, in point of fact it is deliberately a NON – RELIGION. It is based on the only real point of contact where people of differing religious backgrounds and callings can truly and agreeably communicate with one another. This is on the level of the original, or fundamental spirit.
Think about it for a moment, all religions claim to be different or offer what they consider to be the true path to a particular Godhead. These differences have been the subject of much unrest and many wars in the past, or even the present for that matter. Let us put these differences aside for the moment, and consider that which is at the very heart of every religion, PURE SPIRIT.
Dear people, the words "SPIRITUAL" and "RELIGIOUS" should be interchangeable with each other, but as the acts of many people will clearly show this is not the case.
For example, some people who are religious are not necessarily spiritual, and vice-versa of course. Amongst other reasons this point of hypocrisy is why many are drifting away from the establishment religions. The gut tells you that it just doesn’t ring true anymore.
If you take even closely connected religions, e.g. Roman Catholic, C. of E., Methodist etc. to name but a few, they all seem to be too ready to fall out over small differences in their religious dogma. And this from people who allegedly worship the SAME God. The only way that these people will be able to communicate is to forget their piddling differences and go back to the basics of the ORIGINAL SPIRIT.
O.K. here’s an exercise for you, first take the words, Jehovah, God, Shinto, Tao, Buddha, Allah, etc. Now substitute them all with the word SPIRIT, and you can begin to see the concept works. And now all of a sudden there is a distinct upswing in the possibility of communication between these various factions. At basic spiritual level people even a Witch can understand a Catholic, because there is no dogma to get in the way. You see for countless millennia people have been trying to kill each other over various different names for the same thing. A carton, a case, a crate, are just differing ways to describe the same thing, namely a box.
This article is not intended to knock different religions, after all it is my belief that a persons religion is special to them and a very deeply personal thing. I do not mean any insult or slight by my various observations, my own personal way precludes this most vehemently. I am merely trying to establish that the important thing in any religion is the spiritual power at the heart of it, anything else is really only window dressing. I will confess to liking a good rite or sacrament myself as much as anyone, but we must not lose sight of the fact that these are only ways of reminding us of our personal connection with our spiritual godhead. The danger is (and has happened) that these window dressings become the religion, and the spirit plays second fiddle. The consequence of this is that the font of spiritual power on this planet becomes ever more fragmented. This makes it ever harder to focus the power in any given direction or on any one particular problem. In truth this fragmentation is the cause of a lot of worldly troubles.
It is my studied and considered opinion that the whole gamut of the various different religions were not meant to be this way. Rather they were meant to be of one accord, and purely by accident of time, location, and human frailties, have become almost completely irreconcilable. The result of this is that we are all mostly pulling in different directions spiritually, and both we and the Earth suffer because of it. It is not hard to see that we need to find some point of agreement and concord with each fellow spirit within us, and this can be achieved through fundamental spirituality.
Returning to the window dressing for a moment, this eventually, if not unchecked becomes the dogma of a particular religion. Now what this tends to do is to choke that religion and stunt it’s growth, it becomes unable to communicate even on the basic level with other religions, especially if they are similarly dogmatised.
Lets for arguments sake take two of the holiest people I can think of quickly, the Pope, and the Dalai Llama. I have the utmost respect for both of them in their various capacities, and even as people/spirits. Unfortunately for them as heads of their different religions they are not allowed to grow any more spiritually than they have become already. They have a duty as "figureheads" to perpetuate the dogma of their particular religion. Even though they may personally have learned the folly of this type of dogmatic quicksand, they would be unable to "go public" with any new revelations. The fanatical adherents within their religions would be in uproar and call for a replacement, or for them to toe the line, or even bring back the inquisition. People are too used to have their thinking done for them, sadly this dogma is so deeply ingrained in some people they have totally forgotten its original purpose. Or for that matter the true nature of their divine spirit.
Hopefully they will eventually be able to break out of this vicious circle of their hate breeding, dogmatic existence, but I wouldn’t hold your breath. I believe it is we more enlightened souls that will eventually dissipate this head in the sand stupidity. After all the reason Darren Dogma is happy with his head up his own backside and reluctance to visit any other point of view is down to pure common FEAR.
Fundamental Spirituality has no dogma, no rites, it works on the purest of levels, (i.e. the spirit within each of us), connecting with all the spirit of the universe. To learn, to grow, to love, and that dear people is it. No pretences, pretexts, or hypocrisy, no hiding the truth behind regalia or vestments. Meditate (pray) as the need arises, live holistically, the whole universe is your temple, your home, you need no other. Fulfil yourselves along with others, respect all life, and know that the power of the whole universe flows within all of us.
